History Of Uttaranchal
The history of state Uttaranchal goes back to the early years of the 20th century when political and social awareness started among the people of this region to over come from poverty and backwardness after 1910.
In 1938 Pandit J.L.Nehru said that the people of this region need special rights to taketheir decision under special circumstances of this region.
After 1979 the human movement started when a new political party called "Uttaranchal Kranti Dal"came into existence but it took a new turn in the year 1994 when the than state chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav passed reservation quota bill for the minorities.The movement spread over in the whole Uttaranchal region with in a very short period time and every youth,old aged man ,woman and child took active part in it.
Sites and Temples In Tehri

Gautam Rishi's Temple
The temple is situated at a distance of 8 Kms. from Tehri on the way to Dehradun-Saharanpur Road.As this place is associated with the saga Gautam it has a great religious significance among the devotees.It is said that a holy dip in the Ashram's "sarovar" is equal to the dip in the holy river "Ganga ".
Every year thousands of devotees visit the temple in the month of April and October, when a big fair takes place here.

Surkhanda Devi temple
The temple is situated at a distance of 33 Kms. from "Mussoorie". Surkhanda Devi temple is dedicated to Maa Durga and has great religious importance among the local people
Every year a fair is held to worship the Goddess Durga and a largenumber of people visit this place .
